8About Me
Hi my name is Adam and I’m currently a Final year medical student at the University of Dundee. I came into Medicine slightly later than most in my late 20s, however I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of the degree and breadth of the degree. Before this I was an Engineer mainly working in Control Engineering and Mathematical Modelling.
I have a wealth of teaching and tutoring experience, starting in 2014 I began tutoring Maths and Physics to school pupils and have continued this on and off since then. I was also a University and College lecturer in Maths and Control Engineering and have taught in China as part of an exchange.
I’m passionate about helping people achieve and surpass their goals, whether that’s a specific grade in an exam or admission to university. I fully believe in the growth mindset and that with enough work you can achieve your goals.
In my spare time I’m a mediocre golfer, a slightly better runner and the second best cook in my marriage.
My teaching style
I take a student centred approach where we workout where the student is struggling and make the student confident in that area. I would normally start with a mock assessment where we work out where the student is confident and not so confident and make a plan from there. I also believe that this approach is best achieved through problem solving and active questioning from my part, rather than passive learning. This means I take a practical approach where we try things and work through questions together. At the start I will be working alongside the student but by the end I should be watching from the side line.
My past experience
I was an Engineering Lecturer for two years when I completed my first degree and I have been a Maths and Physics Tutor for 10 years.
My Proudest Achievements
I was able to take a student from a National 5 C to a Higher A and passing my Medical School Finals with 78.5%.
