About Me
I have just completed an MSt in Modern Languages (French & English) at the University of Oxford, following a BA in French & Philosophy.
I started Sixth Form with a science focus, however quickly fell in love with studying French literature which enabled me to gain a deeper cultural understanding of my French heritage.
Throughout my BA and MSt studies in French, I explored a broad range of early modern and modern French texts and how these sit within the wider cultural, historical and political context. In particular, I am familiar with the works of Molière, Racine, Hugo, Camus, Sartre, Beckett, Ionesco, Marivaux, Beaumarchais, Mérimée, Maupassant, Flaubert, Duras and Djebar, amongst others.
For my undergraduate coursework project, I was awarded the inaugural Clément Olympe Lavanne Prize in 2023 for the best performance in Francophone Literature, with a preference for French Caribbean Literature.
My postgraduate studies spanned three particular areas of research: Beckett’s Poetics of Ignorance; Law and Literature in France from 1450-1700; and Molière’s celebrity status in the 17th century French theatrical landscape.
Having studied arts, humanities and sciences up to IB, I can support with mathematics and science from KS1 to GCSE, as well as French and English Literature up to A-level / IB standard. I achieved 41/45 points for my IB (2019) with a 7 in French, 6 in Chemistry and 6 in Biology at Higher Level; following 12 GCSEs all graded A*-A / 7-9. I am a native French speaker and received extensive translation and essay writing training over the course of my undergraduate studies.
I am happy to help with any university personal statements, support MLAT and interview preparation, and offer general information about the Oxford Modern Languages and Philosophy courses as well as demystify the college system and university life more broadly.
I also love theatre, cinema, dance, music and travelling!
My teaching style
I am a friendly, methodical and hard-working learner myself and enjoy offering support to help others achieve their academic and extra-curricular ambitions. I approach tutoring as an open and collaborative dialogue, working together with focus towards agreed aspirational goals.
My past experience
My tutoring experience to date has been predominantly mentoring Oxbridge French applicants with personal statement, MLAT and interview support.
I worked as an interview assistant for Oxford undergraduate admissions interviews in Philosophy for Jesus College in December 2023; and, as an Outreach Ambassador, supported the Outreach Officers of the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages and St Hilda’s College run various events and mock-tutorials for prospective applicants from 2019 – 2024. I also bring a wide range of experience of working with students from primary school to sixth form age in various educational outreach positions and theatre in education volunteering roles.
My Proudest Achievements
I am retrospectively proud of each step of my educational pathway and feel very grateful to the family and teachers who encouraged and supported me along the way. State educated for secondary school, I applied to King’s College Wimbledon with very little understanding of the private school system and was the first student from Teddington School to attend KCS Sixth Form. I feel incredibly lucky to have been encouraged to apply to Oxford University for both my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and treasure the experiences I had over my 4 years in Oxford. For my undergraduate coursework project, I was delighted to be awarded the inaugural Clément Olympe Lavanne Prize in 2023 for the best performance in Francophone Literature, with a preference for French Caribbean Literature.
