About Me
Hello! I’m Andrew, a third year psychology student at UNSW and soon to be med-student at the University of Sydney here in Australia.
For the past 6 years I have been building up knowledge and experience of admissions tests, starting from 10th grade where I sat the ACT a year early and scored in the 99th percentile. For me, it took several months of dedicated solo study, but now I’m hoping to provide you with the most high-yield insights I’ve gained on this journey so far and help you reach your goals faster than I could’ve on my own.
I’m originally from America where I studied for and sat the ACT and SAT. Now, living in Australia I’ve sat the GAMSAT for prospective med students and again scored in the 99th percentile.
The biggest thing I have gained over these last 6 years has been my ability to apply principles from my studies in psychology across 3 domains: How to learn, how to teach, and how these exams are designed as psychometrics (and how they can be beaten).
My teaching style
There are a two broad domains I consider when thinking about how to tutor my students.
Firstly, their content knowledge. Each of these exams has prerequisite knowledge necessary, but not sufficient to perform at the highest level and I believe my approach allows to identify the specific gaps in my students’ knowledge and fill them.
Secondly, the individual factors which keep students stuck and from progressing. Many students find themselves dedicating hundreds of hours of study and practice without sufficient improvement and when this happens, it’s usually due to particular psychological roadblocks that restrain their performance.
Overall, I try to tutor students using the best of my knowledge gained from psychological science and evidence-based techniques to improve performance.
My Proudest Achievements
I think my proudest achievement has been the unique knowledge base I’ve gained to be able to help others navigate and perform the best they can in these exams.
