About Me
I am a friendly, enthusiastic second year Graduate entry medic at Warwick. I have a range of academic experience having completed a previous degree in Maths and Philosophy at Oxford University (St Edmund Hall). I have also worked as a tutor for eight years which has helped me develop excellent tutoring skills.
Beyond academic work, I used to work in educational publishing at Oxford University Press, working on secondary maths textbooks for use in the UK market.
I really enjoy both learning and teaching, and I am keen to share my enthusiasm for learning with students and help them achieve their goals! I think it is really important to have a good relationship between tutor and students and I focus on building confidence as well as knowledge.
I tutor maths, the UCAT admissions test, and help with interview preparation.
My teaching style
I am a patient, friendly tutor. I focus my tutoring sessions around worked examples and mini problems in order to keep the lessons engaging and interesting. Having had a range of tutoring experiences I have learnt the importance of breaking topics down into small sections. I also learnt a lot about structuring lessons from working in educational publishing and so I make an effort to have a clear structure to my own lessons.
My past experience
I have been working as a tutor for the past eight years; mainly tutoring maths from primary through to admissions tests. I also have further experience teaching as I used to work as a sailing instructor, and from volunteering with the educational charity IntoUniversity.
I previously worked as an editor for Oxford University Press. In this role I worked on secondary maths textbooks and this gave me a lot of insight into how to deliver maths education, and into the secondary maths curriculum.
My Proudest Achievements
I was particularly proud to graduate from Oxford with my masters in Maths and Philosophy, and to have completed my first year of medical school. Outside of academic work I am a keen runner and I’m very proud that I completed my first ultramarathon!
