I am a Doctoral Teaching Assistant and educator with over 20 years of experience, specializing in SEND and SEMH within mainstream UK education settings. My expertise lies in evidence-based, assessment-led teaching strategies that enhance progress and engagement for pupils with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning difficulties. I am passionate about creating inclusive classroom environments through differentiated support and structured routines, enabling pupils to access learning and build independence.
My teaching style
My teaching style is highly inclusive and adaptive, focusing on individualized support tailored to the specific needs of pupils with SEND and SEMH challenges. I employ differentiation techniques such as chunking, modeling, and the use of visual prompts, alongside structured routines and positive reinforcement to support behavioral regulation and cognitive engagement. I emphasize clear communication, scaffolded learning, and the gradual fading of prompts to foster independence, always maintaining a calm and consistent approach to behavior management.
My Proudest Achievements
Among my proudest achievements is designing and coordinating community learning programmes impacting over 300 children and young people, with a strong focus on supporting students with special educational needs. My role as a Doctoral Teaching Assistant enables me to contribute to higher education through effective seminar delivery and tailored pastoral support. I have also successfully adapted teaching resources to overcome literacy and memory barriers in mainstream schools, directly improving engagement for pupils with autism, ADHD, and dyslexia.
