About Me
Hi, I am Maria Valettas and am excited to be your tutor!
I am a compassionate, patient and involved tutor who wants to see you succeed! I am looking forward to guiding you in your studies.
I am an international student from Toronto, Canada and am currently in my third year at The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) studying Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. Through my studies I have been able to gain in-depth knowledge in some of my strongest courses such as biology and chemistry. I find interest in surgery and am very passionate about global health. I hope to achieve a specialty in ophthalmology after I graduate. In my spare time I enjoy volunteering at local animal hospitals, participating in school activities and playing with my dog.
Not that long ago I was in your exact position, applying to universities and trying to excel in my studies. Medicine is not an easy career path and it is extremely competitive. I would have greatly appreciated a mentor, this is why I will do my absolute best to assist you and make you confident in your skills.
I hope to help you with your future endeavours!
My teaching style
Throughout my educational career I have come to learn that there are multiple learning styles a student can have. This is why my main priority will be to determine what style works for you and carry out my lessons to accommodate your needs. The structure of my lessons will also depend on your preference. If you want to prioritize certain subjects over others I can tailor the session to your needs.
I can ensure that with every lesson I will summarize our learning and ask you questions throughout to make certain that you are picking up the material well. As well, homework will be assigned to truly integrate the concepts learned during our session.
My past experience
I spent my last two years of high school tutoring younger students at my school in subjects like Biology, Chemistry, and English. This past experience helped me strengthen my communication skills, teaching method, and confidence.
My Proudest Achievements
Some of my proudest achievements include being an honor roll student for all of highschool, participating in various Model United Nations simulation debates in the World Health Organization committee and of course being accepted into my first choice vet school.
