About Me

Hi! I’m Rimma and I am a University of Cambridge MPhil candidate and a Russian Studies graduate from Durham University, bringing over four years of experience in high-level academic mentoring. My expertise is uniquely centred on the intersection of language, history, and philosophy. I specialise in delivering tailored A-level and Undergraduate-level support, particularly in Russian/Slavonic Studies, History, Politics and functional study skills. I have a proven track record of helping students (both SEN and non-SEN) navigate the transition from secondary school to the analytical rigour required at top-tier universities.
My track record is defined by significant academic turnarounds. I recently supported an A-level student in raising her performance from a projected ‘U’ to a final ‘B’ grade, ultimately securing her first-choice university place. Beyond subject-specific knowledge, I act as a mentor for university admissions and academic writing, helping students refine their self-expression for higher education. My background in regulatory compliance and startup operations allows me to bring a unique, real-world perspective to the classroom, showing students how their academic skills translate into professional excellence with every student I support.

My teaching style

My teaching style is built on using visual tools, scaffolding complex information and adaptive communication. I believe that academic success in the humanities is often a matter of organising information and processing it, more so than its raw memorisation. I focus on turning abstract concepts into clear and manageable structured systems. I use digital tools like Canva and interactive Adobe documents to create engaging, visually-driven lessons that cater to a variety of learning needs, from students with dyspraxia to those for whom English is a second language. By breaking down complex historical or philosophical narratives into manageable frameworks, I help my students overcome barriers to their academic progress.

I view the tutor-student relationship as a collaborative partnership rooted in transparency and shared accountability. Rather than delivering a one-size-fits-all curriculum, I constantly pivot my approach based on real-time feedback and the specific analytical requirements of the student’s goal, whether that is a A-level exam or an Undergraduate research paper. My goal as a tutor is to equip students with the skills to thrive independently in sixth form or university environments.

My past experience

Yes, 4 years of experience. This includes both private independent tutoring and roles with established agencies (Manning’s Tutors), including delivering online sessions as part of the UK’s National Tutoring Programme.

My Proudest Achievements

Successfully raised an A-level Religious Studies student from a projected ‘U’ to a final ‘B’ grade. Currently supporting an undergraduate student with dyspraxia, who is studying Russian in Manchester, increasing the student’s performance from 40% to 63% in four months through tailored organisational and analytical scaffolding.
