3About Me
Hi I’m Emily and I graduated as a dentist from the University of Sheffield in summer 2022. I had all 4 Dentistry interview offers at the time of my application and was successful in 3 of them at securing offers, so I am aware of the common mistakes that students may make at interview but also the things that dental schools are specifically looking for. I have done dental interview tutoring now for a couple of years and most of my students have been successful at securing offers which is great and why i love the job!
A bit of general info and background about me is that I also have a twin brother who has qualified as a dentist from the University of Liverpool, so I have good insight into how their dental school curriculum is ran. I enjoy playing badminton and going on walks in my spare time, which the peaks in Sheffield is great for! I am currently working as an associate in North Yorkshire and haven’t long finished my Foundation Year but it has been really enjoyable and I now have more insight into how general dentistry works and the NHS
I love tutoring and get on so well with my students- I’m here to support you through the application process and beyond. No question’s a silly one, so ask away! I’m still in touch with many of my students now from the past application cycles which is lovely and it’s great to see how they are getting on at dental school! Looking forward to meeting you all and yets smash these dental applications/interviews!
My teaching style
My teaching style is very tailored to the individual student. Some students prefer to take things more slowly at first and don’t enjoy being put on the spot with questions, so I will ease into this process with you so you feel comfortable. Some students prefer to be thrown into the deep end, so I will also accomodate to this if that is your preference! No question is a silly one to me, and I always ensure that lessons are enjoyable and varied so hopefully the information will be more memorable. With dentistry interview tutoring, I like to do as many mock interviews as possible as this simulates the real life situation and gets students the most prepared, so the interview is less daunting on the day. I also usually set bits of independent research to do between sessions, as this furthers understanding and gives us something to discuss at the beginning of each session. I can adapt my teaching style to suit you best, so if you have any preferences just let me know at the beginning or as we go along!
My past experience
I have tutored now with Medic Mind for approx 3 years for dental interviews and reviewing personal statements. I have also spent time at my old college delivering sessions on dental interview prep and common themes that arise during dental interviews e.g. issues surrounding confidentiality
My Proudest Achievements
This is a hard one, because it depends whether we are talking academically or in my personal life. My proudest academic achievement was getting the top GCSE results at high school in my year out of the girls, and my best friend got the top out of the lads which was lovely! I worked really hard throughout my high school years and was a massive perfectionist at that age, so I’m proud the hard work payed off!
But my proudest achievement, which I think is more of one to me than any academic related one, is having to repeat an academic year at University due to illness, and that I’ve managed to get through that time and return back to my course. I technically should’ve graduated by now, but I think it’s important to remember that your health and happiness is more important than academia
