About Me
Hello! I’m Ruby. I’ve just finished a law degree at Oxford and I am now training to be a barrister (with the help of a prestigious scholarship). I achieved three A*s at A-Level and an A in my EPQ. My GCSE results (some of which were taken early) were ten 9s and two 8s.
I’m passionate about criminal and public law: I have worked with high-level chambers and shadowed top judges. I am also a sports fanatic: I used to be an elite triathlete!
I’ve been tutoring with StudyMind for almost three years now. My speciality is the LNAT: I have a long track record of successful students.
I find tutoring for admissions tests particularly rewarding because of my own experiences. My application to Oxford and to a grammar school were very much independent endeavours (I received little help from school and no external tutoring). This means I am driven to help students who feel similarly in the dark about application processes and expectations. I know how it feels and I want to help you feel confident that you can ace this.
My teaching style
I am always enthusiastic, dedicated and friendly. I enjoy what I do and want you to get the most out of your tutoring.
To this end, I can be very flexible: I adapt my teaching to your priorities and goals. Every tutoring programme I run is individualised based on an initial assessment of your abilities and concerns, and continues to adapt based on your performance.
However, I am confident in my own judgment and am able to identify where we should focus if you’re unsure where to begin. I have a tried-and-tested framework to teach you how to tackle what the exam throws at you.
In terms of teaching methods, I use a variety of activities including quizzes, discussions, reading passages, tackling mock questions and critiquing mock answers. I’ll tailor these exercises to how you learn best.
My past experience
I have successfully tutored many LNAT students and so have a wealth of experience in this area. The majority of my students have achieved a score of 29 or above, alongside various G5 and Russell Group university offers.
I have also worked as a Law Mentor in my university, helping first-year students tackle their new courses.
During my A-level years I tutored GCSE students in English, RE and History, which has helped me to transfer to professional tutoring of these subjects. I also helped my brother pass the 11+ and helped various friends to pass Oxford interviews before tutoring these exams with StudyMind.
My Proudest Achievements
I am obviously very proud of my acceptance to Oxford, and my excellent exam results. I also achieved lots as an elite triathlete a few years ago!
However, the closest achievement to my heart is probably passing the 11+ without much help – before I was accepted into my secondary school, I grew up in a working class community and didn’t really believe in my own potential. Getting into such a good school inspired me to aim high and broaden my horizons.
