Angelette
About Me
Hi, my name is Angelette and I’m a fourth year medic at Cambridge University, having graduated with an intercalated degree in Physiology, Development and Neuroscience last year. I provide tutoring for A-levels, GCSEs and Medical School Applications.
I still remember feeling so daunted applying to medical school but I hope that I’ll be able to help you get into medicine and ease some of the stress of what I know can be a really stressful sixth form experience, applying for medical school. I sat both the BMAT (s1 6.3, s2 6.7, s3 4A) and UCAT (averaging above 800, SJT Band 1).
I applied to Cambridge, UCL, Kings and Leicester medical schools and was very lucky to have received all 4 offers. Each of these schools have very different interview styles, I’d be happy to help tailor your interview practice to any of the 3 different styles (Oxbridge, Panel, MMI) having gone through and prepared for all 3 styles. Moreover, if you wanted specific interview practice or mock interviews for the 4 medical schools I applied to, I would be happy to help.
I can also help with personal statements and what to include, how to structure yours etc. to appeal to several different medical schools in order to maximise your chance of getting a place! Lastly, I do also tutor for a-levels: biology, chemistry, maths and german (having achieved 4A*s) so if you need any help with how to push yourself that little bit further in your a-levels, I’m here to help. Let me know if you have any questions and good luck!!
My teaching style
To sum up my teaching style in 3 words: student guided, interactive and I love questions!
Firstly, I really like my sessions to be student guided so ideally I would like to know what you want to get out of a session before we start. I know there’s nothing worse than having a lesson where you came out feeling like you didn’t really get that much from it! Once I know what your aims are and what you would like to focus on in the lesson, I make sure I adapt the lesson plans so that it can suit your needs as a student and so that you can get the most out of it. Secondly, I really like my sessions to be interactive so I tend to ask a lot of questions because I think the best way to learn is to test your understanding but also to make the lesson engaging. I know some of the topic you learn / exams you are revising for can seem mind-numbing at times but I think we can always find ways to make it fun. Thirdly, I’m a big fan of questions, I love to ask questions myself and I really feel like you can get so much more out of a session by asking questions!
My past experience
I tutored for a charity called Team-Up Tutoring, where I taught maths to disadvantaged pupils, which sparked my love for teaching. I have now been tutoring for the past 5 years through various companies and also supervise (small group teaching for medical students) Physiology, Development and Neuroscience part II at Cambridge.
My Proudest Achievements
I think the medical school application process was so rigorous, I’m so proud to be finally studying medicine and learning to be a doctor. It feels like an amazing culmination of 2 years’ worth of hardwork. But I think it’s also important to have achievements outside of academia, so some of my proudest achievements also do stem from the work I do volunteering and music.
