Aqsa
About Me
Hello, I’m Aqsa, currently an F1 doctor. I remember being unsure of where to start with my GAMSAT preparation and the stress this caused, so I’m here to help others figure out an efficient routine that will help maximise their marks. I remember this also out me off from starting any preparation for the exam because I was so in the dark about it.
I am open to cater to individual needs and styles as well, so everyone can get the most out of their preparation.
I am from Derby (East Midlands) and have lived here most of my life. This is my third degree, having done human biology and postgrad law prior to this, and I am really enjoying it. I have started the clinical years and am getting ward experience and moving through different specialities. In my free time, I like to paint and chat to friends via Microsoft Teams (in these COVID times!)
My teaching style
I like to set a baseline knowledge before starting to I can see where each individual is at and how slow/ fast paced we have to go. Then I like to talk through strategy (i.e. so we want to talk through questions, do timed practice or go through a topic that is not quite understood). One thing I emphasise is going through the ACER papers, either bit by bit or timed, and then we can go through it together, as these papers are the best reflection of the actual exam. I also like to make a timetable for the sake of efficiency, as both the student and I know what to expect in the next session and we can both come prepared for it.
In terms of getting things wrong in the sessions, I always say this is a good thing because you would rather make the mistakes now and pick up on them, than make mistakes when it matters, so don’t worry about being wrong!
My past experience
I used to teach people on my course biological concepts by breaking them down, drawing diagrams and then quizzing them. I do the same in medical school currently where I teach concepts to friends when exam season comes around. I have experience in helping people with personal statements for law and medicine as well as interview help.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievements to date are getting into medical school, as this is renowned to be tough, and getting to my blue belt in karate!
