About Me

I am a PhD student in English at King’s College London, having graduated twice from the University of Oxford with two first class degrees (BA, MSt). During my time at Oxford, I studied English Language and Literature from 650 to the present day, with a particular focus on the 19th and 20th centuries. I wrote essays on an array of authors and topics, ranging from the Beowulf-poet to Virginia Woolf. I have won an array of prizes and scholarships during my time in higher education, including full funding for my PhD. My thesis, on which I will be working for the next three years, is on modernist dream-writing, and I love to share my passion and expertise in this subject with my students, as I find the modernist period the most fascinating in English literary history, and dream-writing a tantalisingly complex but enjoyable way of writing.

My teaching style

For English, my teaching style is always text-based, as close engagement with literary texts helps exam performance but also is crucial in stoking an interest in passion in the literature students study. I tailor each lesson to my individual students, but students can expect rigorous, discussion-based learning that mimics the tutorial system at Oxbridge, as well as a focus on exam technique in order to replicate the thinking done in lessons in exam conditions.

My past experience

I have been a tutor for eight years, tutoring dozens of students between the ages of 5 and 18. I have seen students through GCSE and A Level English, and I have succesfully prepared students for Oxbridge admissions. Alongside this, I have taught English in Estonia and Vietnam in the classroom.

My Proudest Achievements

I am proudest of my Master’s (MSt) results, where as well as graduating with a Distinction, I achieved an 80 on my essay on ‘Virginia Woolf’s Bubbles’. I am also immensely proud of all the students I have tutored who have gone on to overachieve, and to do better than they thought possible.
