1About Me
Hello! My name is Ikem, and I am currently in my third year studying Design Engineering MEng at Imperial College London. I achieved A*A*A*A at A level in Maths, Further Maths, Design & Technology and Physics at King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford.
Having achieved First Class results in both my first and second years at Imperial, I have continued to develop my academic experience alongside my teaching. I have over three years of experience tutoring Maths from GCSE to A level, as well as Design & Technology, tailoring lessons to each student’s strengths and areas for improvement. I also worked as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at Imperial for a year, supporting first-year Design Engineering students with tutorials, projects and coursework, including mechanics, electronics and engineering mathematics.
I have also worked as a Maths Coach at a residential maths camp the past 2 years, helping teach hundreds of pupils through interactive workshops and activities. These experiences have given me the opportunity to work with students of different ages and abilities, and I particularly enjoy helping students understand difficult concepts, build confidence and become more independent in their problem-solving.
My teaching style
I like to make lessons interactive and focused on understanding rather than simply memorising methods. I usually start by identifying what a student is comfortable with and where they are struggling, then work through problems together before gradually giving them more independence each lesson. I also try to explain concepts in different ways when something does not immediately click, as I know that the same explanation will not work for everyone. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as this is often where the most useful learning happens.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements was finishing my first year at Imperial College London ranked 2nd in my year and achieving a First Class result again in my second year. I was also awarded for my contribution and performance in Design & Technology at school, having achieved one of the highest A level grades in the subject in my sixth form that year.
