About Me
Growing up in Sheffield and attending a local state school, I am the first of my family to attend university and as such have a strong appreciation for the challenges in accessing higher education.
During my undergraduate degrees in Medical Sciences and Medicine, I developed a special interest in neuroscience and pharmacology. Pursuing these interests, I assisted in a research project at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences investigating the “Effects of different pulse parameters on TMS induced heart-brain coupling” and completed an extended essay dissertation titled “To what extent can changes in reinforcement learning explain the antidepressant effects of dopaminergic drugs?”
In my third year, as part of my Final Honours School, I elected to study options from the following modules:
• Chemical Pharmacology
• Pharmacology and Signalling
• Cellular Neuroscience
• Systems Neuroscience
• Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience
I am currently finishing my Medicine degree, expanding my clinical knowledge and skillset.
When I’m not studying medicine, I am an avid rower and coxswain. In 2023 I was the boatclub president for my college club and at my home club I am involved in coaching novice rowers. I also enjoy playing the guitar, in which I have attained Grade 8.
In my spare time, I peer review submissions for the British Student Doctor Journal.
My teaching style
• Syllabus focussed approach – adapted teaching to suit specific syllabus.
• Assess where student is currently at in their education – understand strengths and gaps.
• Will construct a plan to ensure that weaker content is addressed.
• Prioritise understanding – will work from the basics upward and ensure strong foundations before moving onto more complex topics.
• Will expect work to be completed before each session.
• Exam questions integrated into every session – prioritise application of leaning to exam format.
My past experience
I have three years of experience mentoring competitive university applications to Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary medicine and tutor GCSE biology, chemistry, maths, and physics and A-Level biology.
In 2024, I spent a year working as Head Laboratory Technician at a local secondary school. This scope of this role expanded far beyond technical support of science department and science practicals, enabling me to mentor struggling students on GCSE and A-Level sciences content. Alongside my role, I helped establish and manage the school’s 6th Form competitive applications programme, helping students to achieve their higher education goals. I also was fortunate enough to run a medicine society with aspiring doctors, dentists, and vets, hosting weekly sessions to help inform and prepare them for a career in these vocations.
I have also started employment at the University of Oxford as a Tutor in neuroanatomy at St Hilda’s College.
My Proudest Achievements
• Securing my place to study Medicine at the University of Oxford.
• Graduating from pre-clinical school with a degree in Medical Sciences.
• Winning Blades as St Hilda’s College Boat Club’s men’s 1st boat coxswain during Summer VIIIs regatta.
