About Me
Hello! I’m Saskia and I am currently a fourth year veterinary medicine student at the Royal Veterinary College. From a young age I have always loved working with animals, but it was my passion for surgery and understanding medical treatments which inspired me to pursue veterinary medicine.
Throughout secondary school I tutored and mentored younger students to help them build confidence and achieve their goals. Along side tutoring academically, I also founded veterinary and animal welfare societies, enabling me to present and discuss veterinary related topics with students interested in VetMed. In these societies, we often did mock interviews and discussed ethical topics which helped prepared myself and other students for applications.
Since beginning my degree, I have cultivated my passion for teaching by joining Animal Aspirations, a student led organisation with the goal of increasing diversity within the veterinary profession. This has given me the opportunity to prepare and lead workshops in secondary and primary schools, encouraging students from all backgrounds to consider an animal-related career.
Having been elected Vice President of the national organisation, I have represented Animal Aspirations in front of schools, universities and charities. This year I was delighted to be selected as runner up for the global UNiDAYs Student Woman of the Year award for my work with Animal Aspirations. These amazing experiences have enabled me to strengthen my communication and interpersonal skills, allowing me to become a better vet and tutor.
I would love the chance to work with you to help you prepare for your interviews and personal statement. I remember how daunting this process can seem at the time and hopefully by working together we can make this experience enjoyable and exciting.
My teaching style
I take a collaborative approach allowing students to understand a broad range of opinions and perspectives. I encourage them to voice their own opinion as well as considering alternate view points.
I believe that working together as a team is the most effective way to prepare you for your applications over the next few months and allows you to gain confidence in your ability and knowledge.
My past experience
I have tutored Maths, Biology and Chemistry whilst helping students interested in VetMed by holding mock interviews, role play scenarios and ethical debates.
