11About Me
Hi, I’m Shah. I’m a recent MEng Computer Science graduate from UCL, and I’m currently working as a Junior Full Stack Developer at Medical Intelligence Group, where I’ve been developing full-stack applications and REST APIs for healthcare technology.
I’ve worked across both frontend and backend development, using technologies like TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js, Python, SQL, MongoDB and Docker. I’ve also had experience with software engineering practices such as Git, Agile development, testing, code reviews and API design.
Alongside my professional experience, I’ve been contributing to Pokémon Showdown, a large open-source project, since 2023, which has given me experience working on an established codebase and collaborating with other developers.
During university, I also worked on projects including a reinforcement-learning AI for Tetris, a C-based maze pathfinding application, and a charity location management website built with Svelte.
With regards to maths, I achieved an A* in both GCSE and A-Level Mathematics, as well as an A in A-Level Further Mathematics in 2022
My teaching style
My teaching style is very practice-focused. I believe that practice makes perfect, particularly when it comes to subjects like Mathematics and Computer Science. I like to work through practice questions with students, gradually increasing the difficulty as their confidence grows. Rather than simply explaining a concept and moving on, I focus on giving students plenty of opportunities to apply what they have learned. I encourage students to attempt questions independently, then work through any mistakes together and identify where they went wrong. My aim is to continue practising a particular type of problem until the student feels comfortable and confident tackling it on their own.
My past experience
Yes. I previously worked as a teaching assistant at Kumon, where I helped students improve their Mathematics and English skills from KS1 all the way to GCSEs.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements is completing my MEng in Computer Science at UCL while gaining real-world experience as a full-stack developer. I’m also proud of contributing to Pokémon Showdown, a large open-source project, and being trusted to continue working at Medical Intelligence Group after my university placement.
