About Me
Hello!
I’m Kate, and I’ve been teaching English online and in the classroom since I graduated in 2006, when I began my teacher training. I teach KS3, GCSE and A-level English, but my favourite thing is the work I do with students on their Oxbridge English applications, specifically preparing for ELAT and for Mock Interviews. It is such a privilege to learn about the enthusiasms and interests of students who want to go on to read English – and to help develop their confidence and understanding about that process.
My time at Oxford was one of the most enriching of my life, and supporting others on their journey to that experience is a wonderful thing.
Alongside my teaching and academic work, I write YA fiction, amongst other things, and try to keep studying myself; this is, I believe, very. important if teachers are to remember how hard it can be to learn!
I am absolutely dedicated to bringing the best out of my students and I would love to hear from you if you are ready to begin reaching your Oxbridge English goals!
My teaching style
I enjoy sharing debate and ideas with students, encouraging them to test their ideas, to deepen their analysis and to find ways of sharing their own ideas whilst also absorbing the new.
I also encourage students to read short passages ahead of sessions, providing us with material to discuss, as well as the opportunity for students to engage with a wide variety of texts.
I always try to find out where the student is in our first meeting – working out their interests, strengths and areas of school study, so that I can adapt my training to suit their needs.
My past experience
Alongside teaching English Language and Literature to ages 11 – 18 since 2007, I have also been preparing students for Oxbridge English admission, working with just over 30 Oxbridge English students in that time, running ELAT classes and mock interviews.
