About Me
Hello! My name is Joey. I’m a first-year medical student at Monash University with experience with the ISAT, SAT, and UCAT ANZ, scoring in the top 2% for the ISAT and SAT, and the top 10% for the UCAT ANZ.
I know first-hand that trying to build a portfolio to gain admission to your desired university or course can be stressful and time-consuming. With this in mind, I aim to help take some of the stress out of the admissions process by helping you prepare for admissions tests in a way that is adapted to you and your unique strengths, weaknesses, and availability.
By tailoring my teaching style to fit your individual profile and providing specific, personalised feedback, my goal is to help you prepare for admissions tests with methods that are not just adapted to your individual needs, but also – crucially – tried and tested with great success. This prevents you from wasting time on preparation methods that don’t work for you, and allows you to free up more time and energy for other parts of the admissions process so that you can focus on achieving your greatest potential in those respects.
Having prepared for and taken these tests myself, I also share anecdotal tips based on my and others’ experience, so you can be confident that you’re receiving reliable insider knowledge. This is especially valuable for niche tests like the ISAT, which can be a black box for students due to how little information on it is publicly available.
Aside from the above, I also have experience with successfully getting past the medical interviews for Monash University, the University of New South Wales, and University College London, and receiving offers to study at all three universities. I would love to help you prepare for these interviews in the most effective and time-efficient way possible by using relevant and up-to-date information alongside my anecdotal experience.
I’ve been in your shoes before, and I know how hard it can be. If you’ll allow me, I’d love to help guide you towards the success you deserve – and can achieve.
My teaching style
Every person responds differently to different teaching methods. Thus, instead of falling back on a one-size-fits-all approach, I utilise a dynamic and personalised teaching style adapted to each student. This means:
– modifying teaching plans and practice materials to fit individual students’ strengths and weaknesses
– providing specific, actionable feedback that students can integrate into their preparation
– making sure that practice plans are time-efficient and tailored to students’ availability outside of academic and extracurricular commitments.
Aside from this, I am an approachable and friendly tutor willing to provide advice on not just admissions tests, but also on other aspects of gaining admission to one’s desired university or course.
My past experience
I have years of experience volunteering as a tutor for high school students. This has helped me develop valuable soft skills, such as keeping students engaged and adjusting teaching approaches to suit different individuals.
My Proudest Achievements
Getting into medicine has definitely been a hallmark achievement for me – it took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get to this point. Aside from this, I’m proud of my volunteering efforts involving education: I started and led a tutoring program for children of incarcerated parents which has been running for several years now, and was one of the first executive committee members to be involved with an emerging non-profit organisation providing low-income children with free in-person academic support.
