About Me
Hello! My name is Lilly, and I have just completed my final year reading law at Oxford University. I received a BA in Jurisprudence and won two prizes for my final exams. My last year has been spent revising nine different subjects, ready for an intense exam period, so it’s been a great time for trying out different ways to revise, and seeing which work best. Fun is a strange way to describe 11-hour days in libraries, but I really believe that getting to understand something difficult can be a joyful experience.
I’d like to bring a combination of that joy and that work ethic to my prospective students. I studied History, English Literature, and Law at A-Level, with an EPQ about climate litigation and whether the law can be an effective tool in tackling climate change. I studied 10 GCSEs, including History, Computer Science, and Spanish as my options, and received a Grade 9 in each of them. In my spare time, I enjoy acting, particularly Shakespeare, reading, particularly non-fiction or classic literature, and ballet. I have accepted a training contract at a Magic Circle firm.
My teaching style
Learning, in my experience, takes place in three stages: understanding, consolidation, and application. I will take students through each stage, while also using active recall to ensure that the knowledge is being retained, rather than parroted. I thrived under the Oxford style of teaching, which involves both wide-ranging discussions about a given topic, and producing written work about the topic unaided. That is the style, along with my learning framework, I generally apply. Approaching a subject from different angles, and in different mediums, is the best way I have found to truly know it.
