About Me
Hi, I’m Kirthana, a medical student at the University of Nottingham with a strong academic background and a genuine passion for teaching. I’ve always loved breaking down complex topics into simple, understandable concepts and helping students build confidence in their abilities. Having gone through a competitive academic journey myself, I understand how overwhelming studying can feel – especially when expectations are high or when students feel they’re “not good enough” at a subject yet.
I believe every student can succeed with the right guidance and encouragement. I’m patient, approachable, and adaptable, and I tailor my teaching to suit each student’s learning style, whether that’s visual explanations, step-by-step problem solving, or active questioning. I focus not just on getting the right answer, but on understanding why it’s right, so students can apply their knowledge independently.
As someone who has balanced rigorous academics alongside leadership roles and extracurricular commitments, I’m also happy to support students with study techniques, exam strategies, and building good habits. My aim is to create a calm, supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and motivated to improve.
My teaching style
My teaching style is structured, supportive, and student-centred. I assess a student’s current understanding first, then explain concepts clearly using examples and active questioning. I encourage students to think aloud, ask questions freely, and build confidence through practice and positive feedback.
My past experience
Yes. I’ve mentored younger students academically and provided informal tutoring to peers, particularly in science-based subjects. I’ve also supported students with exam preparation, revision planning, and understanding challenging concepts in a clear and approachable way.
My Proudest Achievements
Becoming a medical student through hard work and resilience, completing a research project in immunology, and taking on leadership roles that allow me to mentor and support other students academically and personally.
