Marcus
About Me
My name is Marcus, and I’m chemistry student at the University of Oxford, fortunate enough to be completing my mastery’s thesis with the University of California, Berkeley. I have tutored chemistry and physics, both at GCSE and A-Level, for over 5 and a half years across AQA, OCR A/B And edexcel boards. I am have also been a student outreach officer for 4 years working with Oxford for North East, where we work to aid in applications, from UCAS to interviews, to oxbridge and other elite universities from non-typical backgrounds. I live in Hexham, Northumberland (a little ways from Newcastle and a lot further from Oxford!), where I also work in the laboratory of Multichem Ltd. over my summers and holidays, where I have gained invaluable laboratory experience. I love surfing, hiking, running and diving outside of my degree and am a member of my college’s football and rugby clubs.
My teaching style
Typically 1-4 hours per week, with sessions usually 1-2 hours in length. My student’s preferred style is drop-in style lessons, where we can go over content they find themselves struggling on / exam prep / particular challenges, however if students know what they’d like to cover in advance I am happy to prepare lessons. Each session always reinforced with exam questions to ensure students understand the application of the learning. I usually set a few questions outside lessons however this is readily flexible according to the student’s schedule.
My past experience
Yes, 5 and a half years freelance tutoring.
My Proudest Achievements
Being one of three students to participate in the Oxford-Berkeley chemistry exchange, my diver’s license and completing the three peaks challenge.
