About Me

Hi, I’m Teni — a friendly and enthusiastic tutor with a First-Class BSc in Natural Sciences from UCL and who is currently studying the MSc in Science Communication at Imperial College. I tutor Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and I particularly enjoy helping students move from “I don’t get this at all” to feeling confident tackling questions on their own.

I attended Sevenoaks School from years 9 to 13, where I achieved 9s in all 12 of my GCSEs and studied the International Baccalaureate (IB) in sixth form. As part of this I took Higher Level Maths (Analysis and Approaches), Physics and Chemistry, achieving top grades in all and a total 44/45 points in the IB as a whole.

In years 12 and 13 I tutored both GCSE and IB students in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry one-to-one, online and in person. My approach is patient, supportive and tailored to the individual: some students need a concept broken down step by step, some need lots of worked examples, and some mainly need help building confidence and exam technique.

Alongside my scientific training, I’ve also developed strong communication skills through science writing and science communication work. That means I’m very used to explaining complex ideas clearly, accessibly and without making students feel intimidated. I want sessions to feel encouraging and productive, with no pressure to “just know” things straight away.

Whether you’re aiming for top grades, trying to catch up in a difficult topic, or just wanting a clearer and calmer way to learn, I’d love to help!

My teaching style

My teaching style is patient, supportive and tailored to the individual student. I know that not everyone learns in the same way, so I adapt my approach depending on what works best: breaking concepts down step by step, using worked examples, asking students to talk through their thinking, or focusing on exam-style practice. I try to create a calm environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, because that is often when the real learning happens. My aim is not just to help students get the right answer, but to help them understand why it is right and build the confidence to tackle similar problems independently.

My past experience

Yes — during sixth form I tutored both GCSE and IB students one-to-one in Maths, Physics and Chemistry, working with students both online and in person. This gave me experience adapting explanations for different ages, confidence levels and learning styles. I helped students with understanding difficult topics, working through problems step by step, and improving confidence with revision strategies and exam-style questions. I found tutoring really rewarding, especially when a student began to feel more confident in a subject they had previously found overwhelming.

My Proudest Achievements

Some of my proudest achievements are earning a First-Class degree in Natural Sciences from UCL, achieving 44/45 in the IB, and currently maintaining a Distinction average in my MSc at Imperial College London. I’m also proud of my experience in science communication, including writing about complex scientific topics for wider audiences, because it reflects something I really value: making difficult ideas clearer and more accessible. Beyond grades and awards, I’m especially proud of the times I’ve helped other students grow in confidence and achieve grades they were proud of.
