→Can I use the Maths work experience/summer school as part of my DofE award?
Yes you can! As a DofE Approved Activity Provider, Study Mind’s summer experiences qualify for the Gold DofE Residential section.
→What type of Maths careers does Study Mind cover?
Study Mind provides an extensive array of work experience opportunities within the realm of mathematics. Our offerings encompass a broad spectrum of mathematical disciplines, including data analysis, financial analysis, engineering, and more. Our commitment is to offer a rich and varied selection of work experience opportunities that span across different branches of maths, ensuring a comprehensive and diverse experience for our participants.
→ Do I have to live in the UK to do this?
We ensure convenient arrangements for our international students who reside overseas, as 70% of our student body falls into this category. We facilitate pick-up services from Heathrow airport to the accommodation, where a member of the Study Mind team will greet you. Additionally, if necessary, we will also arrange transportation back to your departure terminal.
→ How old does my child have to be to attend this?
We recommend this course to anyone aged 14-25. This means any child in Year 9 or above or any graduate entry applicant.
→ What is the cancellation policy?
The work experience week is non-refundable once booked. This is because we have to plan for all logistics including accommodation bookings, room bookings and more. If you are unsure whether you can attend but don't want to lose your spot, you can pay a non-refundable deposit of £500 to secure your place. The remaining payment will be due before the start of the course
→ Will my child have to travel between sites alone?
Safety is paramount to our Work Experience week. Your child will always be accompanied by the Study Mind Safeguarding team for any travel needed. There will be a 30 minute train journey to and from the accommodation to the hospitals/hospice but this will be fully accompanied.
→ What is the accommodation like and where will I be staying?
You will be staying at UCL Accommodation in single rooms where breakfast and dinner will be provided. You will stay here from Sunday night (day before the course) as well as the last day of the course (Friday) so in total 5 nights. There is 24/7 security and Study Mind staff who are first aid and safeguarding trained will be on site to assist. We can also arrange airport pick up for you.
→ How do I apply for a visa?
Students coming to the UK for the Work Experience will need a Standard Visitor visa- https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor
The Standard Visitor visa can only be applied for by parents/guardians and costs £100. They must apply through the UK Gov website only, You can name our course and Study Mind as the guardians of under 18s, and provide then the course information and booking confirmation when applying for the visa.
We recommend booking flights first before applying for the visa, as the visa needs proof of a return flight (the course end date might be enough, but might result in rejection).

→ For meals, do you deal with dietary requirements?
Many of our students are based overseas and have specific dietary requirements such as being vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, halal, among others. We will make sure to accommodate these needs and make the necessary adjustments to your meals.

Absolutely, prior to attending the week, we kindly request that you inform us of any health conditions you may have so that we can take necessary precautions beforehand. → Who will be looking after my child?
Throughout the entire duration, your child will receive dedicated support from our Study Mind staff, who possess DBS enhanced checks and comprehensive training in first aid and safeguarding. We ensure that there will always be a female staff member available both on-site and within our accommodation premises. Students will be provided with a 24-hour emergency contact number, which they can reach out to at any time. If necessary, this number can be shared with parents and guardians as well.
→ Do I need to pay up front?
We are aware of the financial challenges brought about by the current economic conditions, especially regarding upfront payments. To offer flexibility, we provide interest-free installment options for 3, 6, and 12 months. It's important to keep in mind that a non-refundable deposit of £500 is necessary to secure your place.
→ Do I need to book Study Mind's accommodation?
Booking our accommodation is not obligatory. You have the choice to either commute or arrange your own accommodation if needed. Nevertheless, there are benefits to reserving our accommodation. By opting for this, you'll enjoy the guidance and help offered by our committed team, and you'll also have the chance to reside with fellow students engaged in the work experience programme.
→ Will Study Mind provide certificates for the week?
Absolutely! Every student will be awarded a concrete certificate as clear validation of their successful course completion and active participation. This certificate carries substantial significance, particularly for their UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) applications, as numerous universities stipulate the need for evidence of participation.
