Our aim is to offer diverse and comprehensive work experience opportunities across various facets of journalism.
→ Do I have to live in the UK to do this?
We are committed to making the transition smooth for our international students, as the majority, approximately 70%, come from abroad. We offer convenient services such as airport pick-up from Heathrow airport to your accommodation, where a Study Mind team member will warmly welcome you. Moreover, if required, we can also arrange transportation back to your departure terminal for your convenience.
→ How old does my child have to be to attend this?
We highly recommend this journalism work experience course to individuals aged 14-25. This includes students in Year 9 or above and graduate entry applicants who are looking to explore and gain valuable insights into the field of journalism.
→ What is the cancellation policy?
Once you have booked the journalism work experience week, please be aware that it is non-refundable. This policy is in place because we need to make meticulous logistical arrangements, including accommodation and room bookings. If you are uncertain about your availability but wish to reserve your spot, you have the option to secure your place with a non-refundable deposit of £500. The remaining payment will be required prior to the commencement of the course.
→ Will my child have to travel between sites alone?
Ensuring the safety of your child is our utmost priority during our journalism work experience week. The Study Mind Safeguarding team will always be present to accompany your child for any required travel.
→ What is the accommodation like and where will I be staying?
During your journalism work experience, you will be accommodated in single rooms at UCL Accommodation. Breakfast and dinner will be provided during your stay. You'll begin your stay on Sunday night, the day before the course begins, and check-out on the last day of the course, which is Friday, resulting in a total of 5 nights. You can enjoy the peace of mind of 24/7 security, and there will be dedicated Study Mind staff on-site who are trained in first aid and safeguarding to provide assistance. Additionally, if needed, we can arrange airport pick-up for your convenience.
→ How do I apply for a visa?
Students coming to the UK for the Work Experience will need a Standard Visitor visa- https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor
The Standard Visitor visa can only be applied for by parents/guardians and costs £100. They must apply through the UK Gov website only, You can name our course and Study Mind as the guardians of under 18s, and provide then the course information and booking confirmation when applying for the visa.
We recommend booking flights first before applying for the visa, as the visa needs proof of a return flight (the course end date might be enough, but might result in rejection).

→ For meals, do you deal with dietary requirements?
We understand that many of our journalism work experience students come from overseas and may have specific dietary requirements, including being vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, halal, and more. → Who will be looking after my child?
During the entirety of the journalism work experience week, your child will benefit from unwavering support from our dedicated Study Mind staff. Our staff members undergo DBS enhanced checks and receive extensive training in first aid and safeguarding to ensure your child's safety and well-being.
To provide added comfort, we guarantee the presence of a female staff member both on-site and within our accommodation premises. Additionally, students will be equipped with a 24-hour emergency contact number, enabling them to reach out for assistance at any time if needed. Parents and guardians may also have access to this emergency contact number for added peace of mind. Your child's safety is our top priority, and we are committed to providing a secure and supportive environment.
→How many days does the Journalism Work Experience run for?
The journalism work experience programme extends over five days, with daily sessions starting promptly at 9 am and typically concluding around 3:30 pm. However, rest assured that you will receive a comprehensive timetable in advance, outlining the specific timings and activities for each day.
For those who opt to stay at UCL Halls, we have an array of exciting evening activities lined up for you. These include movie nights, bowling, and a variety of engaging options to ensure a well-rounded and enjoyable experience.

→ Do I need to pay up front?
We understand the challenges posed by the current economic situation when it comes to upfront payments. To provide flexibility, we offer interest-free installment plans for 3, 6, and 12 months. However, please note that a non-refundable deposit of £500 is required to secure your spot.
→ Do I need to book Study Mind's accommodation?
Booking our accommodation is not mandatory. You have the option to either commute or make your own accommodation arrangements if necessary. However, there are advantages to booking our accommodation. By doing so, you will benefit from the support and assistance provided by our dedicated team, and you will also have the opportunity to reside alongside other students participating in the work experience programme.
→ Will Study Mind provide certificates for the week?
Certainly! Without a doubt, all students will receive a tangible certificate that serves as solid evidence of their successful completion and participation in the course. This certificate holds significant value, especially for their UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) application, as many universities require proof of participation.
