I completed an AS Level award in English Literature and A Levels in History, Psychology and Art and Design. I then achieved a 2:1 in BSc Applied Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University in 2014. In 2018, I successfully completed a PGCert from the University of Birmingham in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions, and in 2021 I qualified as a teacher of Art and Design.
I am a creative-thinking and motivated individual looking for a new challenge to broaden my horizons. I have previously worked as a psychological talking therapist, and I am also a qualified secondary teacher with extensive experience in schools; which has led me to my current role as an SEN tutor for adolescents who are refusing school attendance. My role is to provide them with the emotional support and encouragement needed to return to school, as well as helping them to learn and revise all curriculum material needed to pass their exams. I relish the opportunity to build positive relationships with others, as this is what motivates me, and I love to see meaningful changes which lead to bright futures; as a result of the work that myself and others have put in. I believe that in order to overcome any challenge, the first step is to identify the barriers to change. This requires the development of trusting relationships with students, as well as their parents and key staff members at their enrolled schools. Once these barriers are identified, we are able to collaboratively come up with a tailored plan to integrate students back into school.
I have been working as a professional tutor for nearly seven years. I graduated with a degree in HSPS from the University of Cambridge, and have been teaching a variety of humanities and English subjects ever since. I tutor English Language and Literature GCSE, Sociology A Level, Oxbridge admissions, as well as many other related-courses. Since 2020, I have adapted my work to a heavily online-based approach, though am available in person, particularly for summer school and teaching camps. Online, I utilise screensharing, PDF annotation, interactive whiteboards, shareable textbooks, past papers, and many other learning materials and worksheets that I have accumulated over the years, and in many cases technology that I have invested into, in order to make online tuition particularly engaging.
I’m Rachael, a dedicated and passionate tutor with over 10 years of experience in supporting students across a range of subjects, including English Literature, English Language, Media, Film Studies, and Art. My approach to tutoring is grounded in a belief that every student can succeed with the right guidance, and I strive to create a learning environment that is both supportive and engaging.
I hold two A*s in English A-Level, a First-Class BA and a Distinction MA in Film Studies, as well as two MSc degrees from University College London. I am currently pursuing a doctoral (PhD) programme in child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy. This academic background, combined with my extensive experience working in specialist schools and providing private tuition to vulnerable children and adults, has equipped me with a deep understanding of how to tailor lessons to the individual needs of each student.
My lessons are designed to be both structured and interactive, with clear goals and a focus on building confidence. I aim to ensure that students feel fully supported in their learning and are empowered to achieve their desired outcomes. I am committed to helping each student reach their full potential and approach each lesson with a positive and motivating mindset.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy vintage shopping, drawing, and watching as many films that come out as possible! I look forward to working with students who are eager to engage in their learning journey and achieve academic success.

Hi, I’m Daphne! Currently, I am an English student at the University of Oxford. I’m very passionate about engaging with literature, from reading to undertaking creative writing.
I have experience applying to both Oxford and Cambridge, meaning I have a strong understanding of the application process! I was pooled by Cambridge, and received an offer from Oxford.
Additionally, I was offered a merit scholarship to attend Bennington College in Vermont, USA. I decided to attend Oxford instead!
In my English Literature A-Level, I was awarded full-marks on three of my essays in the AQA final exam. I was awarded an A* overall.
Outside of my learning, I am also an award-winning poet. Engaging with writing allows for a greater understanding of authors and their motives, which is invaluable when studying literature!
