About Me
Hello! I’m Tan and I am a second year medical student at Newcastle University. Medicine is without doubt a difficult course to get into, and there are a lot of hurdles even before the interview process from UCAT to academics and even work experience before even arriving to an interview. As for each of these hurdles, they can all be quite daunting which is where my role comes in as a tutor, having gone through this whole applying and preparing for medicine process, I am able to advise and help students throughout their admissions process from UCAT, personal statement checks, EPQ and Interviews.
At the end of the day, you just need to understand how the system works and how you can adapt your skills accordingly. My job as a tutor of medic mind is to ensure that you develop those skills and the knowledge to tackle your future hurdles.
I know every tutor will tell you to relax, but the one tip that worked for me and for several students, is make sure you enjoy the process. As much as it is important to be relaxed, the student’s who I’ve seen perform well are those who were excited and extremely enthusiastic about the interview and actually ended up enjoying the process.
My teaching style
My teaching style depends student from student. Everyone has their own speeds to work at and I can accommodate accordingly, as previously I usually prepare students for interviews under a weeks time. My main teaching style is taking a little time to understand the student and then fine tune the lessons to focus on what needs further practise. On addition to Medic Mind resources, I create my own questions that are similar to what have been seen in interviews. My lessons are always pre-organised and I do enjoy spending a little time outside of sessions to provide extra work. So whether it’s last minute or no preparation, I can adapt to each person.
My past experience
I’ve been tutoring from before Medic Mind, but I have more than 80 hours of tutoring with Medic Mind in the short few months since I have joined.
My Proudest Achievements
Scoring 860 on Abstracting reasoning in UCAT and completing my GCSEs with all As self teaching GCSEs in 4 months after transitioning from a different educational system.
