About Me

I am Mfonobong Charles Uko, a dedicated and results-driven educator based in Manchester, UK, with over a decade of experience teaching Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering across secondary and undergraduate levels. My academic background includes an M.Res. and M.Sc. in Communication Engineering, and a PGCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, all earned in the UK. As a tutor, I specialise in crafting learner-centred, interactive sessions tailored to students’ unique learning styles and academic goals.

Over the years, I’ve worked with students from KS3 to GCSE, delivering engaging one-on-one and small-group lessons both in-person and online. I employ a variety of digital tools such as Zoom, to reinforce key concepts, develop critical thinking, and prepare students for exams. My approach blends patience, adaptability, and structured goal-setting to ensure students not only understand the material but also gain lasting confidence in their abilities.

I have a proven track record of raising academic performance and have received excellent feedback from both students and parents. As a former university lecturer and teaching assistant, I am well-versed in virtual learning environments and committed to fostering digital inclusion, academic excellence, and lifelong learning. Whether supporting exam preparation or nurturing foundational skills, I take pride in creating supportive, results-focused learning experiences that unlock every learner’s potential.

My teaching style

My teaching style is student-centred, adaptive, and results-oriented. I tailor lessons to suit individual learning needs, using real-life examples, visual aids, and interactive tools to enhance understanding. I focus on building strong foundational knowledge while encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. I use diagnostic assessments to identify gaps, set clear goals, and track progress. Whether supporting struggling learners or stretching high achievers, I create a supportive environment where students feel confident, engaged, and motivated to succeed. I believe in fostering independent thinking and celebrating every learning milestone.

My Proudest Achievements

One of my proudest achievements is helping underperforming GCSE Maths students improve their grades significantly—often by two or more levels—through tailored, confidence-building instruction. I’m also proud of mentoring final-year engineering students, some of whom secured international scholarships and admissions to top UK universities. Earning Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and receiving 2nd Best Poster at a research symposium in Manchester stand out as recognitions of my commitment to both teaching excellence and academic research.
