About Me

Hi, I’m Niti, a second-year medical student at Aston Medical School. Having recently gone through the long and often exhausting journey of sitting numerous exams, applying to medical schools, waiting for MMI invitations, and then anxiously awaiting results, I truly understand how challenging—yet incredibly exciting—the entire process can be. Now that I am here, I realise that every step was worth it. As an international student, many parts of the application process were completely new to me, and I remain eternally grateful to the tutors and senior medical students who supported and guided me along the way. Applying to be a tutor is my small way of giving back and helping future applicants navigate this same path with greater confidence and clarity.

I have always had a genuine passion for teaching. For me, teaching is not only a way to share what I know, but also an opportunity to learn, reflect, and continue developing my own skills. On top of that, my favourite pastime is communicating—I’ll admit, I am a bit talkative!—but I believe this is what makes my teaching style engaging, interactive, and enjoyable. I love creating sessions where students feel comfortable, involved, and enthusiastic, because that is when true learning happens.

My teaching style

I would describe my teaching style as highly interactive and discussion-based, because I believe that active engagement leads to much deeper understanding. I love creating a space where students can share ideas, question concepts, and learn through conversation rather than memorisation. At the same time, I try to keep my sessions creative and focused on real-life application. I’ve always felt that practical understanding is what truly makes learning stick for me, so I emphasise how the skills we develop such as communication, empathy, and ethical reasoning translate into everyday situations within healthcare.

For example, during my own MMI preparation, role-play stations were incredibly eye-opening. They helped me realise how genuine empathy is expressed through tone, body language, and active listening. They also showed me how essential the four pillars of medical ethics are when navigating difficult scenarios and making balanced decisions under pressure. These experiences shaped the way I want to teach: by helping students understand not just what to say, but why it matters, and how these skills will support them throughout medical school and beyond.

My past experience

In terms of teaching experience, I have been fortunate to work with students at different stages of their medical school journey. During my time in school, I led a Medico Club where I tutored younger students who shared an interest in pursuing medicine. I guided them through the application process, helping them understand what medical schools look for and how they could strengthen their profiles. In addition to this, I worked as an MMI tutor during the break before starting university, which gave me hands-on experience supporting applicants in real time. I have also assisted students with developing strong, reflective personal statements that showcase their individuality and motivation for medicine.

My Proudest Achievements

I have always worked hard academically, scoring 95% in my Year 13 examinations and receiving interviews from four medical schools. Beyond academics, I have been a cleft lip and palate advocate with Operation Smile, raising awareness and funds for the cause, and I have tutored at a long-term rehabilitation centre for children—experiences that strengthened my empathy and communication skills. As an MMI tutor, I have supported several applicants, and I am proud that two of the students I coached will be starting their first year at UCLAN and Buckingham University. These experiences have reinforced my passion for teaching and mentoring aspiring medical students.
