About Me
Hi!
I’m currently an Undergraduate Geography and Classical Studies (with Sustainable Development) student at the University of St. Andrews (though I’m originally from London – I went all the way to Scotland because I couldn’t decide which subject to pick!)
Within my subjects, I’m really interested in Roman literature and rhetoric, Greek drama, urbanism, and socialist thought. (Though, of course, I enjoy all aspects of my degree. Most of the time.)
Geography to me is the most holistic of all subjects – I’m completely fascinated by its range and applicability in all areas. I find Geography in English, in Classics, in Statistics, in Business. It’s *not* just volcanoes and favelas, as much as anyone would like it to be, and this is a belief I incorporate into my teaching style.
Outside of school, I’m still deeply absorbed in English Literature, especially absurdist literature and philosophy (scratch that, all literature and philosophy).
I also enjoy environmental work, not making decisions, woodcarving, and cool hats.
My teaching style
I believe that learning should be holistic and fun! At least, I enjoy it. Sometimes it’s hard, but it should always be rewarding. I think students should have learn to have a genuine relationship with their subject – even if they plan to drop it at the next available opportunity.
I think critique is important in helping us learn, but not to an extreme. A gentle teaching style is best in my eyes.
My past experience
I have worked as a tutor with Kumon, teaching children aged around 4-16 (KS1-GCSE) fundamental Maths and English skills. This was work I genuinely enjoyed. I felt I had a genuine relationship with my students, and I was gutted when I had to leave for University!
I also volunteered as a mentor for Y1 Classical Civilisation students as a Y2 at A-Level, offering them help and guidance with the subject and answering any questions they had about the set texts or exams.
My Proudest Achievements
Simply getting through it all. School and life is hard, but it’s so possible to balance them all. Tutoring helps!
