About Me

My name is Ningyi and I study PPE at Oxford.

Regarding my academic achievements, I achieved A* in Further Maths, I gained a first-class grade in my most recent collection examination at Oxford and my score for TSA admission test was ranked among top 5%. Thus you can feel assured that the academic quality of the content taught will be of high standard.

Despite being an Oversea Student, my IELTS score of 8 (taken in 2018), my 7 years of education experience in UK and US, as well as the large number of students I’ve taught, ensures that my English communication quality will be satisfactory.

I would like to admit that I reapplied to Oxford and got in on the second try. Firstly, my first application was carried out when I was only 15. Secondly, The experience of reapplying allows me to compare the difference between admitted v.s. non-admitted candidates and this special insight have enormouslyhelped me guide my students more effectively.

I also have past teaching experience in which I boosted a student’s TSA score from 50+ to 70+ and helped her get admitted into Oxford PPE. Another PPL student of mine improved from 60s to 70+. In addition, I have also helped many students with personal statements, A-Level/GCSE Maths, and interviews. I hope these past experience may serve to demonstrate my teaching capabilities.

I regard each of my students as friends, so they will not feel stressed coming to my lesson, and this element of relaxation will certainly boost their learning efficiency and make my lessons enjoyable. I enjoy students who speak out and interrupt me during classes, because this will provide me great insight into how they have grasped the relevant study materials. I also do my best to encourage those who are more shy to become more actively engaging in class.

My teaching style

My teaching style emphasises student feedback. As I go along with teaching materials, I will ask questions from time to time. This ensures that my students will be left with no doubt and will be able to apply the knowledge learnt. My students are welcome to stop me and express thoughts/views anytime during the session.

I like to go beyond elementary explanations for study materials, and tries to fundamentally improve students’ sub-conscious academic frameworks (where possible). For instance, if one asks me why 2*3=6, I try to go as far as pointing out that numbers are ultimately representations for concepts that correspond to physical properties (dimensions) of our world. Of course, some students responded that they do not prefer this kind of teaching and would rather have quick responses that aim for practical solutions, upon which I adjusted my teaching style. But I recommend my default style, since I believe shaping mental frameworks through deep-level teaching, which allows them to infer and apply, is of the best quality in terms of learning.

In addition, I encourage students to think of and submit relevant materials beforehand. This ensures that my teaching content is well-planned and possesses high quality, making my students’ efforts worthy. For example, a TSA student who has told me beforehand their intended queries and reasons for confusion, will tend to benefit more than those who hasn’t.
