About Me
Hello! I’m Gloria, a Biomedical Science graduate, and I am in my sixth year of Medicine at the University of Leicester. I have over 4 years of experience tutoring students. Previously I tutored Biochemistry to 1st year Biomedical Science students at University of Birmingham to prepare them for their exams and proof-read their coursework. As a Medical Student, I tutored 1st year Medical School students by doing exam practice questions with them and explained any topics they would like to revise or improve their understanding in.
In the past I have been approached by parents of GSCE and A-Level students and GCSE and A-Level students for advice and support to study and revise for GCSE and A-Level exams (particularly for A-Level Chemistry and Biology). I have always enjoyed imparting advice and support to and encouraging students who are currently studying for their GCSE and A-Level exams and/or applying for Medicine. Due to my approachable and chatty manner, my former tutees have found my tutoring sessions really helpful because I enjoy giving thorough advice to students and parents and encourage questions from my tutees.
I attained top grades (A*) in GCSE English Language and Literature, GCSE Biology and Chemistry, and attained a grade A in GCSE Maths and Physics and A-Level Biology. Studying for and sitting GCSE and A-Level exams is challenging and stressful, I want to continue supporting students with their studies and revision having studied these subjects at school and Biochemistry at university.
I greatly benefitted from having a tutor when I applied to Medicine who read over my personal statement especially when I had my upcoming MMI interview because she did lots of mock MMI interviews with me to improve my interview technique and helped me see additional perspectives for ethical scenario questions. Consequently, I felt confident that I could answer any question that I was asked at my MMI Medicine interview using the techniques I was taught, and I really enjoyed my MMI interview and subsequently received an offer. I want to ensure my tutees feel ready for their MMI interview, and they give themselves the best chance of success at getting an offer for Medicine in September!
My teaching style
I have a flexible teaching style and I will always take requests from my tutees on what they would like tutoring in. I believe that students learn best by doing exam style questions from past papers to learn exam technique eg key scientific terminology for GCSE and A-Level Science exams that examiners are looking for, good time management when sitting exams and MMI interviews to attain top marks.
My past experience
Yes I have two years of experience tutoring students in Biochemistry and pre-clinical Medicine topics. I have also informally taught and supported students preparing for their GCSE, A-Level exams and UCAT for Medicine .
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievements include: successfully applying for Medicine, attaining 11 A*-A grades in my GCSEs, and achieving 750 in the abstract reasoning of my UCAT.
