About Me

Hey 🙂

My name is James, I’m a medical student at University College London (UCL). In my free time I really enjoy powerlifting and acting – I have been involved in various productions (both producing and performing).

I have recently been through the application cycle myself; and I believe this gives me a more up-to date understanding of what medical schools are looking for in their candidates. With insight and first-hand experience into the process, I feel as though I am very strongly placed to help you succeed and stand out during admissions and achieve a place at your first-choice university!

Furthermore, I have a strong understanding of weightings (personal statement, admissions test (UCAT / BMAT), and interview) in the application cycle for universities – so I can help students better understand the requirements of their chosen university or help them apply more strategically to maximise their chances of getting into medical school!

I look forward to meeting you!

My teaching style

I like to teach by helping students fully understand mistakes. I try and do this by guiding them through the solutions with thorough explanations as well as revising any topic content where needed, and working through practice questions to ensure full understanding.

For admissions tests I believe the most effective way to improve scores is to teach strategies for tackling question types (e.g conclusions, parallels, assumptions etc), allowing you to effectively tackle any problem!
I will also ensure students identify weak areas, and strengthen these through practice drills so they can feel confident with these topics.

For interview preparation I will help emulate university-specific interview styles to create a realistic environment to practice in, and provide concise feedback so they can ace their real interviews. I will also focus on covering important hot-topics, ethical dilemmas, unusual questions and any specific question types they are struggling with – to ensure that they are well-rounded and able to give high scoring responses!

My past experience

My tutoring experience began as the president of my school’s medical society where I spent time mentoring students to prepare for all parts of the admissions process, and has continued as I work through medical school.

I have particular experience with conducting realistic MMI style interviews – with university-specific stations based on their criteria.

My Proudest Achievements

My proudest achievement is receiving a gold medal distinction in my Grade 8 Acting. I am particularly proud of it since I skipped all the grades before (went straight to grade 8!!), and managed to juggle it during A-level exam preparation.
