About Me
Hi! I am Jess Nicholson, a recent graduate from the University of Cambridge. I read Geography and received a 2:1. I am state school educated and was the only one from my school to get into Oxbridge fo two years. I am now studying a MSc at Newcastle University in Urban Planning- I have a passion in the environment around me and am particularly interested in combatting education inequalities, not only through one day improving the built environment, but also by using my experiences and success at Cambridge to help and guide others. I successfully passed the Cambridge entrance exam, both Cambridge interviews and gained A*A*A in my A levels, allowing my to do my studies at Cambridge University. I have been mentoring Oxbridge applicants for three years, and have a 100% success rate in helping my mentees receive an Oxbridge offer.
I am extremely friendly, outgoing and patient and am well aware of the educational obstacles that can occur today, having experienced them myself. I see it as a privilege to be able to help others overcome these barriers, and I thoroughly enjoy meeting and helping others!
My teaching style
I am a firm believer in creating an open and comfortable learning space. No individual should ever be afraid to ask questions or speak up if they don’t understand something. Through my experience, I have found that having an organised and set out teaching schedule is the key to success. Ensuring the student knows exactly what will happen in each lesson and how each lesson will contribute to the end goal is paramount, and no second is wasted. My teaching style is coaching- instead of offering students the answers, I try to ask the right questions so that they reach the answer themselves. I believe in ensuring not every lesson is the exact same style- I like to do this through quizzes, presentations and most of all setting aside any amount of time that is needed to ensure the student understands what is being taught.
My past experience
For three years I mentored individuals with the Zero Gravity programme, and had a 100% success rate, helping 3 students receive Oxbridge offers.
