Joseph
About Me
My name is Joe, I am a first year medical student at the University of Sheffield. I achieved the best results in my school at A level after being told the teachers weren’t sure I was smart enough to be able to take triple science at GCSE. I am the first in my family to go to university and have had to overcome a lot to get to where I am now, which is why I think that I am in a perfect position to help you. I have hit almost every stumbling block possible in my journey to medical school, lacking any real guidance, everything I have achieved is a direct consequence of me taking action and working myself into a position where I can follow my passions every day, which is what I aim to show you how to do in a smarter way than what I originally did.
Outside of Medicine, I am very passionate about sports and the gym as well as business and economics. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and walking my dog, George.
My teaching style
My teaching style is very interactive. I like to use a lot of past paper questions in order to contextualise content to improve understanding whilst improving exam technique. This also allows me to identify my students’ strengths and weaknesses to show me what we need to concentrate on to avoid focussing on what a student is already good at in order to improve their scores as efficiently as possible.
My past experience
I have tutored, taught and mentored several students over the past four years. I am currently mentoring a widening participation student via the In2MedSchool charity, who I have advised through his UCAT this summer, in which he scored 2860. I am an experienced UCAT tutor and have successfully tutored many students, helping them gain a place at medical school, and have tutored multiple students for interview, earning them offers at their respective medical schools.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement is receiving 3/4 offers for medical school as the first in my family to go to uni, with a top 4% UCAT and going on to achieve the best results in my school, having taken more qualifications than any other student.
