About Me
Hello, I am Anna and I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2024 with an Integrated Master’s in Biology (MBiol). I achieved a 2.1 degree overall and a first in my master’s project. In my master’s project I studied the assembly of the chloroplast protein import complex through a variety of different lab techniques. This project was part of a larger body of work which aims to elucidate the production of chloroplasts within plants and provide new potential methods for sustainable agriculture and increasing food production.
I have previously tutored from 11+ to A-level Biology as well as providing Oxbridge interview practise and advice to prospective students. At university, I mainly did modules in cell, evolutionary, and developmental biology but I also had an interest in sustainability and policy. This makes me well equipped to teach across the whole range of biology topics required for exams.
I have great communication skills which I have gained through carrying out many scientific presentations over the time of my degree. I have also harnessed these skills through managerial jobs which I undertook during my time at university such as College Bar and Shop manager.
Overall, my range of experiences has equipped me well to adapt my teaching style to a range of different students and different needs, allowing me to provide the best tutoring experience possible.
My teaching style
When tutoring, I like to make sure that student have a strong foundational knowledge of the topic that is being covered. I do this through using an active learning approach where I ask them questions consistently throughout the sessions based on the syllabus to keep them actively engaged and participating. I then follow up with exam questions that we work through together to cement their knowledge and work through any parts they find challenging. I also like to vary the learning experience, for example through quizzes at the start and at the end of sessions and asking students to do some work or revision between sessions to make sure they feel accountable and motivated in their own learning.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement is attaining a first-class grade in my master’s project. For this, I had to write a 8,000 word dissertation and present my findings to a group of professors. Throughout the year, I worked with a great lab group and learnt many different laboratory techniques. Overall, this was a challenging but very rewarding experience.
