Edward
About Me
Hello,
My name is Edward (Teddy) Pilgrim. I achieved a 2:1 MChem from the University of Edinburgh in 2020. I have worked for the past 4 years as a lab technician and a brewer at multiple craft breweries (Beavertown, Brewdog etc). I am currently studying in a course with Data Camp to try and learn SQL, R, and Python to try and diversify my skills and potentially gain employment in the data sector. Therefore, I also have a strong mathematical ability. But my core strength is my ability to communicate and teach. My dad is a teacher and I learnt from him how to explain problems and how to be patient with students.
I think my real life experience of work sets me aside from other tutors as I not have the experience to educate someone in academic matters, but I can also shed light on the nature of the job market. What my experience has been like in terms of working a production job with scientific elements and what I have been through to get to my decision of retraining myself.
My teaching style
I am a great believer in explanation and patience. The key thing to teach people though, I think, is to teach them how to teach themselves. How to gain confidence in trying different problems and being ble to identify their mistakes and empowering them to seek out the sources to solve their own issues.
My past experience
I have been a tutor at school, at university, and in the working environment. I have trained numerous brewers as well as chemistry students at university and school level.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement is still raising £2,000 for the Marcus and Amanda Memorial Fund across two successive marathons in Belfast in 2013 and 2014.
