Mira
About Me
Hi, my name is Mira, I completed the IB diploma with 43 / 45 points, and now I am a student at the University of Southampton!
I have been doing online tutoring for 2 years now, and have taught from a number of different UK exam boards, as well as the IB, which is an international certificate of education. I have worked with students of different ages, backgrounds, and levels of knowledge.
Although I am currently pursuing a degree in biology to reach my goal of working in food science and nutrition, I am very passionate about English as reading and writing continue to be passions of mine, hence why I offer to teach English literature and language 🙂 I also did philosophy at HL due to my interest in how philosophy lead us to science, and this ended up helping me tackle the Theory of Knowledge component of the IB a lot better compared to my peers (securing an A as my final result).
My teaching style
My teaching style incorporates active recall techniques to ensure that what you are learning sticks in your long-term memory, and that by the end of our time together you are able to recall concepts with relative ease in time for your exams.
My aim is to make students engage with what they’re learning by asking questions and doing practice questions together, as well as checking in on students during the lesson to clarify any areas of confusion and address concerns.
My past experience
I have been doing online tutoring for 2 years now with a variety of different students from different backgrounds and subject areas.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my first ever GCSE English students came to me with a level 4 in both English Literature and Language, and was given a predicted grade of 5 for both by her teacher. Over the course of five months we were able to boost her grade, first from a 4 to a 5, then from a 5 to a 6, and eventually after her GCSEs she emailed me to tell me she managed to get a 6 in English Literature and a 7 in English Language, and could get into the sixth form she wanted 🙂 This is my proudest achievements because this was one of the first students I ever took on as a tutor, and I was really proud that I was a part of her journey to getting the grade she wanted and thought was unattainable at the start of our tutoring sessions.
