About Me
Hi there, I’m Maryam! I’m a first year medical student studying at Kings College London. I have a passion for Science, and really enjoy teaching, whether that be teaching a subject such as Biology or teaching interview skills. I understand how stressful the application to medical school is and would love to be able to help others who are in the same position as I was a year ago. From UCAT, to BMAT and interviews and finally getting the A level grades, I”ve been through it all and am keen to help you reach your potential. In particular, I’ve helped many students from disadvantaged backgrounds on their journey to Medical school and would love to be able to help other students to gain their offers. Although applying for medicine can seem daunting, if you are determined you can totally do it, and it is so worth it. I look forward to being able to help you on this exciting journey!
My teaching style
My teaching style is primarily centred on class engagement. I adapt my teaching style in order to cater for everyone and make the material as interesting as possible. I like to use group exercises, colourful PowerPoint slides and even videos where possible to demonstrate my learning points. I believe this is something which increases student interest significantly, and from my experience, leads to a better learning experience overall. In addition, I like to ensure that my lessons are engaging, and that they are linked to the specification or objectives set at the beginning of the lesson, so students understand why we are learning a certain topic. Linking the content taught to past exam questions, is a method I find very effective. Most importantly, I believe in having an approachable setting with students being at the centre of the lesson.
My past experience
I am a tutor with KCLTeachMed, where I teach medicine content to my peers and have also privately tutored A level and GCSE students for the last 2 years, so I have fairly good experience with tutoring.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements is being the first person in my family to go to university and gaining a place to study at my dream university.
