Macey
About Me
Hi there everyone!
My name is Macey and I’ve just finished my first year studying Medicine at Worcester College, Oxford University. I’m loving my course, and have already learnt so much, but now want to help those aspiring to study medicine and become a doctor!
I’m not sure what type of doctor I want to be quite yet, but I would love to spend some time working on the Air Ambulance, as I have a love of flying and work lots with the RAF Air Cadets. In fact, I have tutored some of my cadets to successful university interviews, and work with lots to get the best grade’s in their A-Levels and GCSEs. I’ve loved doing it, so tutoring seems like the perfect job for me! I also love theatre and acting, and have been an avid part of Oxford University Light Entertainment Society all year, a group who put on a student written show every term to raise money for charity!
On a more serious note, I understand just how scary year 12 and 13 can be, especially for those with aspiration of Oxbridge and/or Medicine! With the stresses of A-levels, entrance exams and creating the perfect personal statement it can feel like an impossible task, but hopefully I can help to make it all feel a bit less daunting. I can’t wait to meet you all and hear what dreams you have.
My teaching style
I’m a collaborative tutor, so I want to work with the student to identify the areas that they are struggling in the most! I keep a positive attitude, breaking the big tasks into smaller goals allowing us to always make progress and feel good at the end of a session. I also take notice of the learning styles that the student responds to the most, so that I can teach them in the most efficient way possible, that makes the most sense for them!
My past experience
I have a Method of Instruction qualification within the Air Cadets, which allows me to teach them their classification lessons, as well as running specialist STEM evenings for them. I help/tutor older cadets working towards school exams whenever I can, as well as advising them for their personal statement and entrance exams that they may face.
My Proudest Achievements
The day I received an Oxford offer is one I will never forget; I screamed and jumped around with my friends, who were so excited for me. Then, getting 3 A*s at A-level I ran round to my parents sobbing as I had actually done it and reached that goal.
So, walking in my subfusc (our fancy uniform for exams) for my matriculation knowing I was starting medicine at one of the top universities in the world was a culmination of all of my hard work for so many years. It was definitively my proudest moment, and I hope I can help others feel that same pride, whatever their highest dreams are.
