About Me

My name is Hector Crosbie, a penultimate-year medical student at the University of Edinburgh, with a deep commitment to education and supporting aspiring medical students. Since 2022, I’ve been actively involved in tutoring, specializing in GCSE and Highers sciences, alongside preparing students for medical school entry. As the regional head for In2MedSchool at Edinburgh, I lead initiatives that provide mentoring and guidance to prospective medical students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Additionally, as an ambassador for the medical school since 2020, I’ve participated in the admissions process, helping shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Having achieved honours in several academic years and earning a first-class intercalated BSc, I bring academic excellence alongside practical tutoring experience. My work in education extends beyond tutoring; I am engaged in multiple research projects, focusing on the impact of positive placement experiences on specialty choice. This background equips me to offer not only subject knowledge but also guidance on navigating the path to medical school and beyond. I’m passionate about making learning accessible, enjoyable, and tailored to each student’s needs.

My teaching style

Over the years I have adopted an interactive and involved teaching style as this makes me more approachable to my pupils and helps to foster a better relationship with them. Once I have this I feel it makes the work so much easier as it becomes more of a two way street, rather than just me telling them what to do.

My Proudest Achievements

Getting into medicine as a student with a stammer is something I am extremely proud of as I remember being a young boy and really struggling to see myself achieve anything. My charity helping widening participation kids get into med school is also an acheivement I hold close to my heart as I felt like I really changed lives, which is part of why I went into medicine.
