About Me
Hi there, I’m Caleb! I recently graduated with a First Class in Biology from the University of Oxford, and I have five years of experience in both tutoring and mentoring in various subjects. I’ve tutored both independently and for international agencies, so I’ve worked with students from a wide variety of nationalities, age groups, and educational backgrounds.
As a results-driven tutor, I work with my students to identify their specific goals and create a personalised teaching plan to achieve them. I ensure that my lessons are both interactive and engaging for the student by tailoring my teaching style to best suit their specific needs. In all lessons, I place a strong focus on encouraging lateral thinking and guiding students to improve their analytical capabilities through problem-based learning.
My approach produces excellent results, with most of my students improving by at least one grade boundary (GCSE, A-Level), and I’ve helped many to achieve university offers for Medicine and Oxbridge universities. Alongside tutoring, I provide mentoring for competitive university applications, including support with writing personal statements and studying for entrance tests.
My teaching style
My teaching style is tailored to the specific needs and abilities of the student. Often, I follow the Oxford ‘tutorial’ style of teaching, which involves problem-based learning through case studies and exam questions designed to improve students’ analytical skills. This gives students the chance to apply their knowledge rather than doing simple memory recall tasks. I compliment this by setting regular checkpoints and goals for the students to work towards, which helps them to track their progress and motivates them to keep pushing forward!
