About Me
I am a first-class graduate from the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Faculty at Cambridge University with a deep and abiding passion for languages and cultural exchange. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Anthropology at SOAS. Prior to studying at Cambridge, I achieved 3 As at A-level in Politics, English Literature, and German and achieved the Student Award for achievement and subject engagement at my secondary school. As an experienced tutor with over 250+ hours of English language and Mandarin teaching across classrooms in four different countries, I am well-placed to provide comprehensive and personalised tuition aimed at any stage in a student’s academic journey: from GCSE, to A-level, to degree-level guidance. I am in a unique position to provide both an insight into the Oxbridge application process (entrance exams, personal statements and interviews), as well as confidently put forward my skills as a tutor for GCSE and A-level subjects (focusing on English, Politics, Sociology, and Mandarin). I look forward to meeting you and embarking on your journey to academic excellence!
My teaching style
With my background in tuition for Cambridge Language and HSK exams, I am well-versed in coaching students in line with exam syllabi. However, my main focus is always cultivating a deep and abiding love for a student’s given subject, and I understand just how vital bespoke one-on-one tuition is to allowing students to independently cultivate that passion. My teaching style involves engaging with dynamic and entertaining textual material to draw connections between learning and fun. I let the student decide what texts best suit them, from literature, to poetry, to non-fiction text, and even memes!
My past experience
I have seven months experience as an in-person ESL teacher in a Taiwanese private school. I created a structured and positive learning environment for dynamic ESL education between the ages of 5-10. I also managed diverse classrooms and developed a phonics and conversation- based curriculum to boost student engagement and meet personal requirements of every student. I communicated proactively with parents and provided feedback for further support at home.
I have experience tutoring online in both English and Mandarin. For six months, I acted as a teacher for International Companions for Learning, based in Taiwan. I delivered weekly sessions incorporating interactive activities and multimedia resources, and enabled cultural and
language exchange between Taiwanese and British classrooms.
