About Me
Hello!
My name is Yusuf, and I’m going into my second year studying Medicine at Oxford University. I’m very grateful for all the help I received when navigating university applications, and would love to repay this. The application process with its exams, preparatory reading, personal statement writing, and interviews are still very fresh in my mind. Though I am attending Oxford University, I also received offers from UCL, KCL, and Bristol meaning I am experienced in a variety of interview styles and exams. In the UCAT I scored 3280, and in the BMAT 19.7A ( a top 2% score).
I took quite a unique path to medical school, having first applied and received offers for PPE, I then decided to take a gap year and applied for Medicine. This taught me how to use any set of circumstances and experiences to my advantage. All of you will have your own experiences, circumstances, quirks, and interests, and as I did in my application, I would love to work alongside you to capitalise on these things and make your application stand out.
My teaching style
I prioritise an approach which focuses on solidifying the fundamental principles, with the vision of working from this to answer any questions. If a student learns to work and think from basic principles, they are less likely to get caught out in exams or interviews. My tutors have Oxford have reinforced this view, telling me that this approach is what they like to see in prospective applicants.
My past experience
I tutored extensively in school, helping younger years with their iGCSEs. I have also informally mentored people with medical school applications, and oxbridge philosophy applications.
My Proudest Achievements
In 2020, I wrote a prizewinning essay for the Warwickshire Biology Essay Contest. The year later, I was awarded a Gold award in the British Biology Olympiad. After achieving a top 2% score in the BMAT, I was extremely proud to have been accepted into Oxford university for Medicine.
Outside of academia, I was very proud to represent the West Midlands in county squash, and gaining my PADI DIVEMASTER certification.
