Nishita
About Me
My name is Nishita Basu and I’m a first-year medical student at the University of Cambridge. Securing an offer at any medical school is challenging but if you have a passion for the subject and meet the entry requirements, you are already halfway there. It’s so important that a tutor understands the medical application process to the fullest extent that they can, especially with all the changes that are being made to upcoming cycles. I have lots of insider knowledge to succeed in the UCAT, BMAT, and at interview, as I have just successfully completed my own application and secured 4 medical school offers! Through these tutoring sessions, my aim will be to fully understand the strengths and weaknesses of your medical application, and provide you with personalised advice, techniques, and lots of practice to turn your weaknesses into strengths and make your strengths even stronger. Through this process, you will build the confidence to tackle any entrance test question or interview scenario thrown your way.
I also tutor for: Biology (GCSE + A-Level), Chemistry (GCSE + A-Level), Maths (GCSE + A-Level), French (GCSE + AS Level), and EPQ. I have achieved the highest grade in every official school examination I have undertaken, so there is no doubt that I have the best techniques to pass on to you!
I hope to create a friendly, comfortable environment for you to ask any questions you have and learn in the best way for you.
My teaching style
My main goal is to understand your aim and help you to achieve it. I will look at all aspects of your application (if needed!) to gain insight into your ability. Based on this, I will give you advice, techniques, and resources that I have accumulated. I will then give you tasks designed to put the information into practice. During the session, I will assist you with how to implement these techniques, giving you lots of practice and feedback. If the concept feels difficult, we can always try another approach and take some time to give you a more thorough understanding. I will then allow you to apply the same concept but without guidance.
I want you to make the most of your time so homework may be set based on any apparent weakness in the session, or to prepare for the upcoming session. For example, I could ask you to look through interview case studies or do a past paper to go through next time. it’s best to learn knowledge in own time, practice with me etc.
My past experience
I tutored several GCSE students in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and French during year 12. This year of tutoring experience helped me to develop my communication and teaching skills. I now also understand that every student learns in different ways, so my teaching style will certainly be personalised to the individual’s needs and comfort!
