About Me

Hi, my name is Anushka, currently a first year medical student at the University of Birmingham! From my very recent personal experience applying to Medicine, I understand the challenges involved at every step of the process and the strategies needed to tackle these challenges. My strong foundation in science subjects throughout my learning has equipped me with the knowledge to simplify complex ideas at both GCSE and A Level. I am grateful for the vast amount of skills, tips and effective study methods I have been guided to myself throughout my experience which I am enthusiastic to utilise in my own teaching. Having sat both the UCAT and BMAT entrance tests whilst studying four A Levels and writing my EPQ, I understand the importance of time management and maximising revision productivity. I see myself as a dedicated and approachable tutor, who aims to support students at any step of their academic journey.

My teaching style

I believe my teaching style varies for each student, as I want my approach to be as personalised as possible. Methods I find to be effective include active recall through starter mind maps based on teaching from the previous lesson. This allows the student to refresh their memory of older concepts and strengthen the foundation of their learning for further building. I believe that this helps to establish ideas in long term memory. I find that question based learning is the most effective way of excelling in exams at any level of learning. The use of a variety of new technology and applications as well as traditional teaching styles creates a balanced learning environment.

My past experience

I have had the opportunity of tutoring GCSE Biology students during sixth form alongside my studies, who went on to achieve grade 8-9 at GCSE. I have also provided 1-1 mentoring and guidance through GCSE maths questions and past papers. I have also provided personalised help for editing and reviewing medicine personal statements. My past experiences with individual tutoring allowed me to realise that students understand concepts differently and it is important to tailor your teaching as much as possible to allow personalised learning.

My Proudest Achievements

A moment I look back on proudly is being accepted to study Medicine at the University of Birmingham, my top choice due to its beautiful campus and diverse community. After a consistent two years of hard work and dedication at every step of the medicine application process, it is so rewarding to see your efforts manifest into proud achievements.
