About Me
Hi, my name is Ashre Moses, and I am a third-year medical student studying at the University of Manchester.
As a tutor, I am very patient and understanding; everyone learns at different rates. I have a passion for education and mentoring which I have shown whilst hosting several mock interview days and mentoring aspiring students with their personal statement students at a summer school.
Having just gone through GCSEs, A-Levels, and the application process I understand how stressful they can be. I feel it is important for me, as a tutor, to relate to my students. This makes it easier for us to work towards solutions on how you can excel whilst preventing burnout and maintaining the things you like doing.
Going through school seemed like a struggle between trying to balance my academic and social life. I found that once I realised how I work best, I was able to not only improve academically but it meant I had more time to enjoy myself outside of academics. This is why my first aim is to support you in finding how you enjoy working. This will help it to no longer feel like a burden.
My teaching style
Learning is not a one-size-fits-all situation. This is why I work with my students to establish a personalised revision timetable around their other commitments. I also help students explore how they learn best, so each lesson is productive. Once this has been established, I ensure my students are aware of the resources they need to develop outside of our sessions.
Each lesson is centred around your needs. A typical lesson would start with me allowing you to present any questions you may have on any topic. Once I address this, we will come to the main topic for the day. Understanding is the first step to being able to apply what I teach to the exam. So, I ensure you understand the topic by using active recall throughout our sessions. Then, once understanding is established, I will teach you the appropriate exam technique so you can apply your knowledge in exams.
My past experience
I have built up over 100 hours of tutoring students, who I have been able to see grow in knowledge and confidence. I have coordinated several mock medicine interview teaching days for students applying to study Medicine, each of which I led teaching sessions and acted as an interviewer. Along with this, I have been in several other teaching and mentoring roles. These include my role as Head of House and as a Mental Health Ambassador at school.
My Proudest Achievements
Becoming the Head Boy of House is something I take pride in. In terms of sporting achievements, I take pride in the awards I have received for basketball. However my proudest achievement happened during a summer school where I mentored 6 applying medical students with their personal statements and medicine interviews. I was so proud as each of these students went on to receive scholarships with that company.
