Abhay
About Me
Hi, my name is Abhay and I am an economics teacher at a prestigious private school in London, having graduated from Cambridge University (studying economics) with a strong Master’s.
I have extensive experience from practice and tutoring of TMUA, TSA and MAT papers, as well as GCSE and A-Level Maths and Economics, having tutored well over 1000 hours across four years.
Prior to university, I achieved 12 A*/9 at GCSE and 4 A* at A-Level at Westminster School. I received offers from Cambridge, LSE, Warwick and UCL for Economics, so I have an understanding of the admissions process. My role as a teacher of course only compounds this. Thus I also tutor for Personal Statements and, later, for interviews.
As an economics student, there is A LOT of Maths involved – hence me doing Further Maths at A-Level and achieving A*A* – I am kept fresh by the challenging Econometrics modules I have taken. Within economics, my strengths lie in Macroeconomics although my interest is probably in Micro! Outside of academics, I play the guitar, and sportswise I play cricket, badminton and football.
As a tutor, I teach collaboratively – you will be informing me of where you think you are weakest, and where you really want to focus – with a higher number of hours I would like to cover the whole syllabus, but this is not always possible of course.
My teaching style
My teaching style varies depending on the student, in terms of age, capabilities and requirements.
For younger students, my style is more ‘funteractive’, with Kahoots and time challenges, focused around the syllabus of the student. Closer to exams, these can then be put into a more formal setting, a change that is made more gradual by homework sheets.
For older students, the style tends to be based more on past papers – after an opening of random questions, we will move on to a particular topic, which will be explained/recapped; then, we will go through questions on that topic together and at the end they will do some themselves, to develop an understanding to be consolidated by homework.
My past experience
I have had four seasons (as of 2024) worth of both admissions (Maths, Econ, CS and more) and GCSE/A-Level tutoring in Maths and Economics.
My Proudest Achievements
Getting into Cambridge is up there, because it took a lot of practice for interviews and editing for personal statements, as well as academic hard work to make my grades as well as for the interview and pre-interview assessment. Helping other students get into top universities also makes me proud because I am happy to have been part of that life-changing journey
