22About Me
Mary is a Psychology and Linguistics graduate from the University of Oxford, specializing in metacognition, language and thought, and ethical studies.
During her time at university, Mary actively contributed to various research initiatives. Notably, she collaborated with UCL and mental health charity States of Mind, investigating the impact of the education system on young people’s mental health. Mary also played a pivotal role in a research project at the Oxford Babylab, focusing on children’s body posture responses to failed or successful helping behavior. In addition to her research, Mary engaged with over 30 conferences, where she shared insights into educational psychology. Her impactful presentations extended to meetings with members of parliament in education select committees.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Mary was an influential figure in Oxford’s Psychology Society, where she facilitated talks with renowned psychologists. Prior to university, she demonstrated leadership as the president of her high school debate club, while also immersing herself in the musical theatre society and showcasing her musical talent by playing bass in a band.
Mary’s academic excellence is reflected in her A-A* grades across GCSEs and A Levels. Her passion for psychology, dedication to research, and commitment to educational outreach make her a valuable contributor to the field.
My teaching style
My teaching style is a nuanced blend of written and visual formats, creating a dynamic and interactive learning experience. I believe in catering to diverse learning preferences, recognizing that students absorb information in various ways. Integrating written materials ensures a solid foundation, offering clarity and precision in conveying concepts. Simultaneously, visual elements such as diagrams, charts, and multimedia presentations add vibrancy, aiding in the visualization and application of theoretical knowledge.
In the classroom, I foster an environment where students actively engage with the material. Discussions, group activities, and hands-on projects are integral components, promoting critical thinking and collaborative learning. This approach not only deepens comprehension but also cultivates essential skills beyond rote memorization.
I am mindful of adapting my teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, recognizing the unique strengths of each student. By incorporating technology, real-world examples, and interactive platforms, I aim to make the learning journey both enriching and enjoyable. Ultimately, my teaching philosophy revolves around empowering students to become active participants in their own education, instilling a lifelong love for learning.

One of my proudest achievements is excelling in higher education despite facing numerous setbacks and challenges. Navigating through academic obstacles, I maintained a steadfast commitment to my education, demonstrating resilience and determination.
