About Me
Hi, My name is Sophie and I am a third-year Medical student. I absolutely love maths and science and am always helping my friends and my sister with any random questions they have. I am particularly interested in psychiatry and I am very passionate about mental health. I understand GCSE and A-levels can be a partially difficult time so I will do my best to pass on my tips and tricks to reduce stress and make the whole process easier.
A typical tutoring session involves a mix of teaching content and completing exam questions. The topic or aim can be just a recap and clarification followed by exam practice or one that requires a full lesson and explanation. I am committed to making sure you have a broad understanding of the subject and can go into your exams or assessments confident in your ability.
My teaching style
A typical tutoring session starts off with a quick catch-up and a recap of the previous session, followed by 15-20 of teaching or recapping content and I will scatter short consolidation questions throughout. The middle 15-20 minutes is spent practising exam technique by doing questions. The final 15 minutes are spent marking the questions and proving any additional clarification. My approach is very flexible so I will work with you so you can get the most out of these sessions together.
Depending on when you join me in the academic year and what year you are in, will influence how I plan out lessons. Earlier on in the year, I will create a plan making sure to recap content from previous years and cover any content being covered in lessons. I am also happy to teach ahead to help build confidence if you feel this would be beneficial. If you have a set date such as exams, resits or mocks, I will create a plan that makes sure to cover as much content as possible as well as plenty of exam practice. I am a firm believer that exam technique is just as important as learning content, so I included lots of practice questions to help build your confidence. I hope by the time you sit your exams, you are confident in your own ability and have the tools to succeed.
My past experience
I have been tutoring privately since March 2023 across a range of subjects at both GCSE and A Level and I have tutored my younger sister through her GCSEs which she took in 2022 and I continue to help with her A level Maths.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements was getting into medical school. After putting years of hard work and trying to give myself the best shot at success, it was a relief to get the offer and then perform well in my A Levels to get my place
