About Me

Hi everyone, my name is Adhirath Senthil. Having graduated in 2020 and completing my first year of Actuarial Studies and Commerce at UNSW (Australia), I am currently in 3rd year at the Doctor of Medicine program at Bond University.

With the UCAT testing approaching soon in a few months, it is imperative that all students can knuckle down on their preparation techniques to maximize their performance in this exam. With school exams happening simultaneously alongside the UCAT, I can understand just how difficult and over-whelming it can be to balance the two, as both these components are crucial towards ultimately getting accepted into a medical program. Sitting it for the first time in 2020, I scored 2920 (90th percentile), which wasn’t a strong enough score to be admitted into medicine. However, last year, I was able to hone down on my specific techniques and prepare with a plan, allowing me to significantly improve my UCAT score and land me several interviews. My UCAT preparation services will be personally tailored for each and every individual student, where we spend lessons improving relatively weaker sections through repetition and efficient practice. However, I will require individual practice from my students, whether it be full timed exams or subtests, so I can better assess where students’ performances are at, and what areas need further work.

Having passed the first barrier towards medicine acceptance is where the stage of interviews appears. So many times I have heard students saying that preparation isn’t needed for interviews, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Having attended several medicine and dentistry interviews across Australia, I cannot stress the importance of interviews, as these can be the make or break of your future dreams as a doctor. In my interview lessons, I will be going through a multitude of different interview questions with students, for e.g personality, ethics, motivation, teamwork, etc. I should stress that my lessons ARE NOT to memorize answers, but to work on the delivery and have a general framework to use when answering questions. I will also be observing non-verbal cues additionally; these are usually overlooked, but are equally as important as the content of answers (areas like modulation in tone, bright smile on students’ faces, hand gestures, posture, etc).

For UCAT preparation, students will require a Medentry, Medify or any equivalent UCAT package which we can go through together in our lessons. I want to wish all students applying for medicine or other health courses best of luck for this year’s admissions process. Together, I can work with you to guide you one step closer towards becoming a doctor. I look very much forward to hearing from all of you 🙂

My teaching style

In a few words, my teaching style is student-focused. From my previous experience as a tutor, I can definitely understand that every student is different and learns best using different styles; for e.g some are visual learners, some are logical learners, some learn best from repetition of questions and concepts, etc. When tutoring for interviews and UCAT, I can understand students will have a level of independence, and so, I will be very flexible with the structure of my lessons. I also like to create a profile of my students in their opening lesson, where I gather details about their personal life, current stage of medicine application, any volunteering or other work done, etc.

My past experience

I have one and a half year’s worth of teaching experience. Last year, I was a maths (up to and including Maths Extension 1) and science tutor (General Science for younger students or Chemistry for older students), both privately and for a small private company. I also did some informal UCAT teaching, albeit just with some younger students (not formally structured).
